DATE. The year my roommate and I turned into college juniors which meant we were UPPERCLASSMEN. It’s the weirdest feeling ever, by the way. So we decided to act like the super classy girls that we are and take some of our friends with us for a fancy girl date, all dressed up, and have dinner with wine. It started with us inviting this other roommate couple but we decided to invite a third roommate couple as well. We needed a car to get to Piccolo Forno and the third couple volunteered theirs. After getting ready and finally starting to head out, we found out that couple #2 had become a triplet. It didn’t matter because we were all friends but when we tried fitting into the car we were taking, we discovered it was strictly a 6-seater. We’re all small asian girls but it was still no use trying to cram 5 people into the backseat on such a hot summer day. So what were us smart Carnegie Mellon students to do? Squeeze one unfortunate soul into the back hatchback. </p> <p>We had the air conditioning on during the entire car ride. But it wasn’t strong enough to reach the back seat and it sure wasn’t helping the poor girl in the back trunk. It was also an awkward walk to the actual restaurant since we parked a good 5 minutes away and had found ourselves in an-almost seedy neighborhood, with our trip accompanied by the usual catcall out of a passing car.</p> <p>The restaurant itself is pretty. It extends far back into the building and features a brick oven to the side where pizzas are made fresh and delivered quickly to your table. One of the things that had drawn us to Piccolo Forno in the first place however was their bottle service. It drew a $5 charge but we figured it was worth it to enjoy some white wine with our pizzas and pastas. We were given a long table in the very front of the restaurant and were bathed in natural sunlight, warming our table and the mood. </p> <p>This is one of the first times I had ever tried grapes on a pizza. But paired with a couple white cheeses, it was creamy and sweet. My friends ordered their own various pastas and we shared tastes. I can confidently say that Piccolo Forno is good at melding fresh and creamy tastes together in a traditional italian style. But looking around us I saw not only delicious food, but many tables of women happily drinking wine and deep in conversation. Here, sunshine, wine, and lots of bread meld together a warm atmosphere.
